Люди давно цікавилися, чому небо так високо. Вони вигадували різні версії, складали припущення і висловлювали міркування. Тож знайомимося з однією з версій, яка відтворена у казці.

                                      WHY THE SKY IS SO HIGH

Long ago, the sky was very low. It was so low that people could touch it when they raised their hands. On the horizon, where the sky almost touched the earth, was a village. There lived an old woman all by herself. All day long she was busy with cleaning her house and her yard. One day she saw that her yard was very dirty, so she began to sweep the ground so fast and so hard that it raised a storm of dust. In a minute, the dust covered her house and the village and reached the sky. The poor sky started coughing. Suddenly it sneezed so loudly that the whole village shook! People cried, “The sky is falling!” But the old woman didn’t hear them and kept sweeping. After a while, it became so bad for the sky that it started crying helplessly. Huge teardrops fell to the ground. It made the yard muddy. It was too much for the woman. She raised her broomstick and threatened the sky. The sky was so scared that it moved higher and higher and promised never to come down again.

                                        ЧОМУ НЕБО ТАК ВИСОКО

Давним-давно небо було дуже низьким. Воно було настільки низько, що люди могли доторкнутися до нього, коли піднімали руки. На горизонті, де небо майже торкалося землі, було село. Жила самотня літня женка. Весь день вона була зайнята прибиранням свого будинку і свого двору. Одного разу вона побачила, що її двір дуже брудний, тому вона почала так швидко і наполегливо підмітати землю, що підняла бурю пилу. Через хвилину пил покрив і її будинок, і село, і дійшов до неба. Бідне небо почало кашляти. Раптом воно чхнуло так голосно, що все село затряслося! Люди кричали: "Небо падає!" Але стара жінка не чула їх і продовжувала підмітати. Через деякий час стало настільки погано для неба, що воно почало плакати безпорадно. На землю падали величезні сльози. Це зробило двір брудним. Це було занадто для жінки. Вона підняла свою мітлу і погрожувала небу. Небо так злякалося, що воно піднімалося все вище і вище, і обіцяло ніколи не знужуватися знову.

Sometimes I look at the sky with a telescope. My friend and I visited the planetarium last weekend. It was a lot of fun to look at the Moon.
